Do you guys find that when the weather changes, you start to eat nothing but your favorite things from that season? Like – spring shows up, and you eat nothing but asparagus. Then summer rolls around, and you eat watermelon until you explode. Like that?

Or? When it gets cold? You eat nothing but oatmeal?

Please say it isn’t just me.

Thursday: Bob’s 5 grain rolled cereal with frozen strawberries and cottage cheese.

I’m halfway through that bag of Bob’s I bought, what, last week?

Trains.

Especially the ones that are only one car.

I don’t know why, but this cracked me up. I understand that the guards have to come down and the lights have to flash and everything, because it is a train, but it’s just an engine and it was going maybe four miles an hour and we all just sat there and watched. I just sat in my car, eating my oatmeal, and laughing my ass off.

I can’t even tell you what I’ve been eating. Until today – today has held some tasty food. This last week, though? I have no idea. Frozen vegetarian corn dogs, definitely.

Tuna salad (with dried fruit, because that’s how we used to make it at the bakery I worked at it and was the most delicious thing ever) and crackers and grapefruit – that was in there somewhere.

I made sure I was aware of alcohol.

Because my school told me so.

Heck, I even made sure to have a glass of wine here and there. (Yes, this sign is technically expired. However, it was left up all last week, so I assumed they still wanted awareness).

Please consider this both a post and an experiment, k? I finally finally finally joined the ranks of people who like the internet who also know that a web interface isn’t the always best thing ever. (What. WordPress, I love you, but come on. You know you’re a pain in the ass sometimes.)

Sugar continued to be my friend through Saturday night. I took advantage of that fact to eat an entire half watermelon. By myself. In mah bellah. Immediately preceding a run. Sloshsloshslosh.

What. I never claimed I was a genius.

To finish the meal trifecta, I made loaded baked potato soup. (Except with light sour cream and bacon as a garnish only. Just because I was indulging doesn’t mean I had to be awesome about it.)

Oh yeah – Crockett is going to start making beer in … our garage? Our basement? Who can say. Perhaps he’s just going to read the book.

Today I made the unfortunate choice of having tuna salad for breakfast. Unfortunate why? Because my breath smelled like tuna all day?

Oh, if only it were that simple.

I sneezed while eating it while driving, and now my car smells like tuna.

Yeah.

And then? I ate a terrible cobb salad for lunch. The egg didn’t taste like egg. The bacon didn’t taste like bacon. There was roughly a gallon of ranch dressing. Obviously this will teach me not to forget my breakfast and then eat my breakfast as lunch. It leads to a fishy smelling car and a crappy lunch.

We made up for all the unfortunateness with  dinner, though. Crockett grilled some flounder that I got on screaming sale (he marinated it too – in pure deliciousness) and I gently spiced (thyme, cayenne, cumin, onion) and heated up some canned black beans.

So simple. So frugal. So tasty.

I don’t know why we eat out so often.

Oh wait, yeah I do.

My head is full of…

well, snot.

Dude, what. I know it’s gross. Trust me, it’s grosser when it’s your head. My advisor thinks it’s because she made me collect the homework in from the undergraduate Probability & Statistics course that I’m TAing. I think it’s because every single person I know is sick.

I’ve actually made some tasty food, despite wonky taste buds.

This was loosely based on these Honey-Glazed Chicken, Peach, and Sweet Potato Skewers, but instead of skewering them I essentially stewed them. It was sort of complicated – I transfered things in and out of bowls several times – but the main change I made was to pop up the glaze with some fish sauce and some soy sauce.

Delish.

(P.S. My pictures are smaller. I’m not sure why. I’ll figure it out later.)

On Friday I spent 9 hours on campus.

I spent three of them laying in the shade of this tree.

Due to my fuzzy head, I woke up 20 minutes before I needed to leave the house, so I bought lunch. Hellllo Asian Chicken Salad.

The wasps enjoyed it as well.

There is literally nothing more comforting than corn dogs.

Macaroni and cheese? Pshaw.

Veggie hot dogs wrapped in corn batter is where it’s at.

For realz.

After Thursday tequila (which sounds way less cool than Tuesday tequila, don’tcha think?), I wasn’t really ready for breakfast until 11 or so on Friday.

And when I was ready all I wanted were vegetarian corn dogs.

With lots of mustard.

To be clear, Morningstar Farms has no idea who I am or that I adore the everloving shit out of their products. They also have no idea how pissed I am that the corn dogs seem to be in short supply. Last time I found them I bought three boxes, and I’m now down to my last box.

Fortunately I’m not hung over that often.

After I worked for awhile, I met up with the fam. We had big big plans, but we needed to be fed. Since my brother had done all of his vegan friendly shopping, he ate at home. My mom was the center of the big big plans, and it precluded her eating like a normal person.

Being neither vegan nor about to exercise really hard, my dad and I went to Snarfs.

Snarfs is a Boulder sandwich institution. They have expanded to St. Louis and Chicago, but they started here and have 7 shops in CO. The one my dad and I went to is just down the street from where I used to work in Boulder. At lunch time the line goes out the door and down the sidewalk, and if you don’t know what you want when you get to the counter, it’s the plank for you, mister.

At night it’s much chiller.

We ordered our sandwiches and sat down to wait.

The music was speech impedingly loud.

We were hungry.

That explains the look on my dad’s face.

I ordered my favorite – ham and american cheese with everything. Everything includes pickled jalapenos. While eating, my dad and I concluded that any sandwich that doesn’t include pickled jalapenos should no longer be called a sandwich. (That thing you see him devouring in the background was an ‘italian’, and good, but no ham and american cheese.)

We ate outside so we could hear each other talk. We, of course, solved world peace and all kinds of stuff. It’s amazing what you can accomplish when you can hear.

Then it was on to the big event.

My mom racing like a pro at Boulder Indoor Cycling.

That blur in front is her.

She won two of her four races.

Her genetics are a lot to live up to.

The center of the velodrome is this kid’s obstacle/cross country thingie. I wanted so badly to ride on it. I would yell ‘weeeeeeeee’ the whole time.

I’m related to winners.

In other news, as I age my smile becomes more and more ridiculous.

I’m never smiling in pictures again.

Also? I’m wearing jeans that are too big for me with a big hefty belt under my tank top. That weird lump is not my belly.

When we got back to my mom’s house, my secret bananas were ready!

FINALLY

They’re back.

I’ve missed them so.

Never leave me again, Morningstar Farms Veggie Corn Dogs.

NEVER EVER EVER.

Seriously – they’re a little high in sodium to eat every day. There are a lot of ingredients involved in making fake meat, so the ingredient list is sort of intimidating. They have both egg and milk, so they’re not vegan. They’re also around $5 for 4, at least at my local Albertsons, which is a little pricey. (I’m going to go look at Target later this week to see if they’re cheaper there). But? But? The outside is crunchy and the inside is appropriately hot dog tasting and they’re SO GOOD. They were missing from the stores for almost a year for reasons that I believe had something to do with corn prices or only getting GMO corn or something, but now?

THEY’RE BACK, BABY.

Never leave me again, corn dogs.

P.S. Those things on the sides are slices of champagne mango, not fries. I realized after the fact that they look like they might be the grossest fries ever, and I wanted to clear that up. Not gross fries: mango.
